Nohkalikai Falls

Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, with a single drop of about 1,115 feet (340 meters). A plunge waterfall is one that drops freely from the cliff without touching the surface.

The name “Nohkalikai” means “Jump of Ka Likai” in the Khasi language, and it’s derived from a heartbreaking local legend. According to the tale, a woman named Likai, who had remarried, was so distraught after discovering her jealous husband had murdered and cooked her young daughter that she jumped to her death from the cliff next to the falls.
