Dainthlen Falls

Dainthlen Falls is a beautiful natural attraction located near Sohra (Cherrapunji) in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. It is known for its scenic beauty, the unique experience of walking on the flat rock plateau at the top of the falls, and the rich local folklore associated with it.

Legend: The falls are named after a mythical giant serpent called ‘Thlen’ (Khasi word for Python) that was killed by local villagers at this spot to rid the region of evil. Natural rock carvings related to this event are visible on the rocks.

Visitors can walk right up to the top of the wide waterfall and see the water plunging into the deep gorge below. The surrounding area offers open, expansive views of the valley and is a popular spot for picnics and photography.

Accessibility: The falls are easily accessible by a short walk from the parking area, making it suitable for families and the elderly. A cab is a convenient transportation option from Cherrapunji town.
