Sangster Lake

Sangster Lake, officially known as Sangestar Tso and also popularly called Madhuri Lake, is a stunning high-altitude lake in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. It’s a popular tourist destination due to its breathtaking natural beauty and a unique feature—the skeletal remains of uprooted trees that stand upright in the middle of the lake.

The lake is situated on the way from Tawang to the Bum La Pass, near the Indo-China border. It lies at an altitude of over 3,708 meters (12,165 ft) above sea level.

It is said to have been formed by a major earthquake in 1973, which caused rocks, boulders, and trees to fall and block the flow of a river, creating the lake.

The lake earned its popular nickname after it was featured in a song sequence from the 1997 Bollywood film Koyla, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.
