Wards Lake, also known as Pollock’s Lake or Nan Polok, is a picturesque artificial lake situated in the heart of Shillong, Meghalaya. It is a very popular tourist destination and a favorite recreational spot for both locals and visitors.

The lake was conceived and planned by Sir William Ward, the then Chief Commissioner of Assam, and was constructed by Colonel Hopkins in 1894. It is said that the initial digging of the lake was done by a Khasi prisoner who wanted to alleviate the monotony of his daily routine.

Horseshoe Shape: The lake is uniquely shaped like a horseshoe.

Gardens and Pathways: It is surrounded by lush green gardens, vibrant flowerbeds (including orchids), and cobbled footpaths, making it an ideal place for leisurely strolls and picnics.
