Nameri National Park

Nameri National Park, located in the Sonitpur district of Assam, India, is a renowned wildlife sanctuary nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. Established as a National Park in 1998, it is also a part of the Nameri Tiger Reserve. The park’s diverse landscape includes tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen, and moist deciduous forests, along with riverine grasslands. It shares its northern boundary with the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh.

Flora and Fauna
Nameri is a haven for a wide variety of wildlife.

Fauna:

Mammals: The park is known for its healthy populations of Asian elephants and is also home to the Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, wild dog (dhole), gaur, sambar, hog deer, and Himalayan black bear, among others.

Birds: Nameri is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 300 species of birds recorded. It is particularly famous for the rare White-winged Wood Duck, the state bird of Assam. Other notable bird species include the Great Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Black Stork, and Ibisbill.

Reptiles: The park’s reptilian population includes pythons, cobras, and various species of turtles.
