Dawki

Dawki is a small town in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, India, known for its pristine natural beauty and its location right on the border with Bangladesh. The town’s main attraction is the Umngot River, famous for its unbelievably clear, emerald-green waters.

Top Attractions and Activities
Umngot River: The Umngot River, also known as the Dawki River, is the main highlight. The water is so transparent that during the dry season, you can see the riverbed clearly from the surface, making the boats look like they’re floating in mid-air. Boating and kayaking on the river are a must. The nearby village of Shnongpdeng is a popular spot for riverside camping, cliff jumping, and snorkeling.

Dawki Suspension Bridge: This iconic bridge, built by the British in 1932, spans the Umngot River and offers a crucial link between India and Bangladesh. It provides fantastic views of the river and the surrounding landscape.

Jaflong Zero Point: This is a no-man’s land area right on the India-Bangladesh border, where you can see the international boundary markers and interact with people from the other side.

Byrdaw Falls: Located near Dawki, these scenic waterfalls are surrounded by lush greenery and offer a tranquil spot for relaxation.

Mawlynnong Village: Often combined with a trip to Dawki, this village is renowned as “Asia’s Cleanest Village.” It’s an excellent place to experience the local Khasi culture and see the famous living root bridges.
